World Championship Stage 1 Report

The Welkom RC Arena, South Africa is very proud to be the host of the 2018 IFMAR Electric On-Road Worlds Championship. We are very excited to welcome all participants and guests to our stunning new facility which is being constructed with the highest quality and comfort. The facility is designed with all forms of RC racing as well as spectator comfort. Already being a well known and respected RC destination in South Africa the Welkom RC Arena is poised to provide one of the best RC racing spectacles for the 2018 year and beyond.

South Africa Worlds build on target

Last August it was announced that the 10th running of the IFMAR World Championships for Electric Touring Car was being awarded to South Africa. A decision that was met with some strong resistance, racers divided over safety following incidents at previous World Championships hosted there, as time has passed teams & drivers appear to be more accepting of the location. Despite this some unsubstantiated talk has been doing the rounds that the event will not go ahead in South Africa. Taking on the responsibility for putting on the 2018 Worlds, Antonio Caroli has been travelling to the Reedy Race of Champions in the US and the ETS in Slovakia to talk to racers interested in making the trip to Welkom. SARDA ORE Nationals Rd3 – Report

The third round of the 2017 South-African ORE national championship moved to the TRAP RC Venue in Pretoria. Free practise was held on Thursday and Friday with good winter weather in the Gauteng Province pleasing the drivers. The club did some good repair work on the track and a fast track with some technical sections proved demanding for most drivers. The strong 2017 Touring Modified class was represented by all the top and new drivers in South Africa and they pushed hard during the practice rounds and qualifying to achieve the best performance with their cars. During the practice rounds the local Liebenberg brothers showed great pace with their Capricorns while the Xray team mates Anderton Smith, Hein Kotze, Shaun Schutte, Antonio Caroli and Ashley Hurley also had great some great sessions. SARDA 2017 1/12 scale Nationals Round 2
